Biography

Jeffrey Thomson’s latest collection of poems, The Belfast Notebooks, was published by Salmon Poetry in April 2017. His other recent books are the memoir, Fragile (Red Mountain Press, 2015), and The Poems of Catullus: An Annotated Translation (Cambridge University Press, 2015). His the author of four previous books of poems, including The New Faces of Belfast (Anchor & Plume, 2015) and Birdwatching in Wartime (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2009), winner of both the 2010 Maine Book Award and the 2011 ASLE Award in Environmental Creative Writing. Birdwatching in Wartime is currently being translated into Spanish and Russian. In 2012 he was the Fulbright Distinguished Scholar in Creative Writing at the Seamus Heaney Poetry Centre at Queen’s University Belfast, and in 2015 he was the Hodson Trust-John Carter Brown Fellow at Brown University and the C.V. Starr Center at Washington College. Thomson is a board member of From the Fishouse, and with Camille T. Dungy and Matt O’Donnell he co-edited From the Fishouse: An Anthology of Poems that Sing, Rhyme, Resound, Syncopate, Alliterate, and Just Plain Sound Great (Persea Books, 2009). He is currently professor of creative writing at the University of Maine Farmington.
