Biography

Christian Barter’s first collection of poetry, The Singers I Prefer, was published by CavanKerry Press in June 2005, and was a finalist for the 2006 Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize from The Nation and the Academy of American Poets for the most outstanding book of poems published in the United States in the previous year. A 2008-2009 Hodder Fellow in poetry at Princeton University, his poems have appeared in a number of select periodicals, including the Georgia ReviewNorth American Review, and The American Scholar, and his work has been featured on The Writers Almanac and in Poets & Writers magazine. His second collection, In Someone Else’s House, was published BkMk Press in 2013, and his book-length poem, Bye-Bye Land, was published by BOA Editions in February 2017. He is a trail crew supervisor at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine, doing dry stone masonry, tree work, and wild-land firefighting.
