Someone Has Pulled the Fire Alarm

You are in high school and someone has pulled the fire alarm. Likely a prank from one of the Goth kids.

There’s a massive rush to get across the street which is the designated area, should there ever be a real

fire. A young man brushes a young girl’s shirt sleeve in a hurry to get across the street. The young lady

turns to her friend and says, “I’m not racist, but that nigger just bumped in to me.” You stare at the young

lady. You blast her with imaginary fire for her offense. You feel the temperature rise. You don’t

remember crossing the street. All you can think about is the fire set aflame that none of the adults can see,

but you can feel it along with your fellow students—watching it swirl–waiting for the punchline.
